22 December

Just for those of you that need some last minute shopping I will be open through to Christmas eve:
Thur 22nd 10:00 - 5:00pm
Fri 23rd 10:00 - 5:00pm
Sat 24th 10:00 - 12:00pm (Saturday will be a 'clear-away' day as I prepare for the festive period - very drunk!)

Due to the masses of repairs I've acquired this last week it is planned to re-open the shop from Saturday 7th January 2006 at the usual times. This should allow enough time to get all jobs finished ready for another year of music making.

I'm hoping 2006 will prove to be another successful year for HAYES MUSIC as I stride to become 'THE' Brass & Woodwind Specialist for Hampshire and surrounding areas. I would like to thank all my customers for their support and wish them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

15 December

"Last year I bought my wife a wooden leg for Christmas................. it wasn't her main present just a stocking filler!"

"Man walks into the doctors with a mince pie stuck up his bum"
"I've got cream for that" the doctor replies!

It's about time to turn the 'display corner' around. Within the next day or so you'll be able to see the introduction of Howarth and Schilke instruments - both manufactures who are amongst the top in their field. Being such a specialised instrument we will have the student and intermediate standard oboe at the shop. Priced at £1850, the Schilke Trumpet is manufactured to a professional standard.

I'm looking forward to a week of 'Quacking' oboes and 'Screeching' trumpets!

9 December

A trumpet player, a trombonist and a bass player decide they want to spend a couple of days 'roughing-it' and set up camp in the forest.

The first evening the trumpet player decides he is going to catch their supper, and wonders off into the forest. Thirty minutes late he returns to camp with a couple of rabbits. "How did you manage that?" the other two asked. "I found a track, followed it, then caught them" he explained.

The second evening the trombone player wonders off and comes back an hour later carrying a deer across his shoulders. "How did you manage that?" the other two asked. "I found a track, followed it, then caught it" he explained.

Not wanting to be outdone, on the third night the bass player wonders off to catch their supper. Three hours later he stumbles back into camp bashed, bruised and heavily bleeding. "What happened to you?" the other two asked.

"I found a track, followed it, and got hit by a train!!"

BESSON WEEK

Everybody has heard of Besson (or Boosey & Hawkes as they used to be) and for the next week we have a couple of their instruments in the shop.

Besson are also responsible for the distribution of Denis Wick mutes and mouthpieces, Humes & Berg mutes and they recently added Dr. Roger Websters Eco-Lube range of lubricants and oils:

~ Pro-Quality Valve Oil
~ Rotary Valve Oil
~ Tuning Slide Oil
~ Tuning Slide Gel
~ Trombone Supa-Lube
~ Bearing & Linkage Oil
~ Key Oil
~ Cork Grease

I particularly like the valve oil and the tuning slide gel and oil. The valve oil is thicker than others you may be used too but works really well. For a list of instruments on display please visit the Forum.
